Walsh Law PLLC Founder Alex Walsh Issues Statement on U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action on Social Media and Youth Mental Health

“The U.S. Surgeon General has issued an urgent call to action in an op-ed in the New York Timesregarding the impact of social media on youth mental health. As the Founder of a firm whose work often pits us against ‘some of the best product engineers and most well-resourced companies in the world,’ as Dr. Vivek Murthy writes, his words resonated with me:

‘There is no seatbelt for parents to click, no helmet to snap in place, no assurance that trusted experts have investigated and ensured that these platforms are safe for our kids. There are just parents and their children, trying to figure it out on their own, pitted against some of the best product engineers and most well-resourced companies in the world.’

My work protecting children from harmful, addictive content on social media, as well as from predatory adults on children’s games, motivates me every day to do better for the next generation.”
